IE8 Wish List

I was a bit disappointed because Internet Explorer 7 didn’t bring the new features I was hoping for. So here is my wish list for IE 8. Or FireFox, for that matter.
  1. Enable/disable plugins/add-ons on a per site basis. For instance, I hate Flash advertisements that float all over the page. I would like to keep flash disabled by default and enable it only at those sites that really need it. This is indeed a security feature that I was sincerely expecting for IE7 because a lot of malware out there are BHOs (Browser Help Objects) that would be disabled this way.
  2. Delete stored cookies automatically, on a per-site basis. Stored cookies enable a site to identify you when you come back. That’s good for sites like www.nytimes.com or www.economist.com, where I can read news without login in. But lately a lot of sites, like mail.google.com demand you to store a cookie for no technical reason. Actually there’s a somewhat sinister reason: to track what you do on-line. Well, I would like to be able to store the cookie allright (otherwise the site wouldn’t let me in) BUT GET RID OF THE DAMN COOKIE AUTOMATICALLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, like when I close the browser window. This way, the stored cookie would work like a temporary cookie. This has to be on a site-by-site basis because I still want to let www.economist.com store a cookie.
  3. Ability to mute all sounds, no matter where they come from. Oh, some of the sounds come from plug-ins and the browser has no control over them? One more reason for wish #1.
